PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a sterilizer capable of reducing the temperature rise of an electrodeless discharge bulb in the case that the radiation of a microwave is continued exceeding a time required for sterilizing an article to be treated. SOLUTION : In the sterilizer having the electrodeless discharge bulb 2 storing a substance emitting an ultraviolet ray by being irradiated with the microwave and sterilizing the surface to be treated by irradiating the surface to be treated of the article to be treated with the ultraviolet ray emitted from the electrodeless discharge bulb 2, a mercury amalgam 2b supplying a rare gas and a mercury vapor is charged inside the electrodeless discharge bulb 2.
