PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a magnetic recording medium which has superior electromagnetic conversion characteristics and running stability. SOLUTION : The magnetic recording medium is provided with a magnetic layer on one of the surfaces of a supporting body and a back coat layer on the other surface. The magnetic layer includes magnetic particles in which diameters of the particles are 5 to 50nm and made of single crystals of rare-earth-transition metal-metalloid. The number of protrusions, which have a height from the surface of the back coat layer is ≥50nm, is ≤30 to 200(protrusions/(265x350μm2)). COPYRIGHT : (C)2006, JPO&NCIPI
