PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a dispersion compensation fiber module which is capable of performing loss compensation of a silica base optical fiber by Raman amplification by performing the loss compensation of the dispersion compensation fiber by Raman amplification of an optical fiber amplifier and using the silica base optical fiber having a Raman amplification function and a method of transmitting light signals. SOLUTION : This dispersion compensation fiber module has a rear earth doped fiber 51 and dispersion compensation fiber 52 which are disposed across front and rear two process steps, an exciting light source 5 which generates the exciting light of a wavelength band for the rear earth doped fiber 51. an optical coupler 51-1 which makes the exciting light from the exciting light source 53-1 incident on the rear earth doped fiber 51, an exciting light source 53-2 which generates the exciting light for a wavelength band for the dispersion compensation fiber 52 and an optical coupler 54-2 which makes the exciting light from the exciting light source 53-2 incident on the dispersion compensation fiber 52. The fiber module described above is so constituted as to give rise to Raman amplification by exciting the dispersion compensation fiber 52 by the exciting light of the second wavelength band of the exciting light source 53-2.
