PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas hardly causing lowering of activity even when it is used under environment of high temperature and high oxygen concentration. SOLUTION : The catalyst 1 for purifying the exhaust gas is characterized by containing a rare earth element, an alkaline earth element and a noble metal, wherein a part of the rare earth element and a part of the alkaline earth metal form a composite oxide, and wherein the composite oxide and a part of the noble metal form a solid solution.
