PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alkali storage battery containing a rare earth element, Mg, Ni, and Al, using a hydrogen storage alloy as an anode, of which a ratio of strength Ia/Ib, a maximum peak strength IA appearing in a range of 2[!theta!]=31° to 33° at an X-ray diffraction measurement using Cu-Kα-rays as an X-ray source to a maximum peak strength IB appearing in a range of 2[!theta!]=40° to 44°, is 0.1 or larger, improving cycle life by restraining dry-out of alkaline electrolyte. SOLUTION : On the alkali storage battery having a cathode 1, the anode 2, and an alkaline electrolyte, the anode contains rare earth element, Mg, Ni, and Al, and uses hydrogen storing alloy powder of which, a ratio of strength IA/IB, a maximum peak strength IA appearing in a range of 2[!theta!]=31° to 33°at an X-ray diffraction measurement using Cu-Kα-ray as an X-ray source to a maximum peak strength IB appearing in a range of 2[!theta!]=40° to 44°, is 0.1 or larger, wherein, the powder having a diameter of 20μm or less is removed.
