PURPOSE : A light device and an LCD is provided to simplify wiring of a lighting device using no mercury and extend a lighting range. CONSTITUTION : A lighting device includes a plurality of rare gas discharge lamps(14, 15) filled with a rare gas including xenon. The rare gas discharge lamps are arranged in parallel along the side of a light guide plate. Light emitted from the rare gas discharge lamps is inputted to the light guide plate through the side serving as a light-receiving face and projected as a plane light from a projecting face of the light guide plate. The rare gas discharge lamps are arranged such that the same polarity of the lamps is in the same direction. Polarities(14a, 15a) of the lamps at the ground are electrically connected. © KIPO 2006
