FIELD : oil and gas industry. SUBSTANCE : method is proposed for the preparation of a microspherical catalyst for the cracking of petroleum fractions, including ion exchanges for rare earth cations and ammonium on NaY zeolite, two-stage ultrastabilization of the zeolite, mixing the zeolite with the matrix, the components of which use amorphous aluminosilicate, aluminum oxide and natural clay, spray drying the resulting composition, followed by calcining and obtaining a catalyst. As a component of the matrix kaolin clay is used, which is pre-modified with sodium polyphosphate in an amount of 0.1–0.3 wt. % within 3–6 hours, and then subjected to two-stage dispersion, obtaining a catalyst containing, by weight, % : zeolite Y 18–25; amorphous aluminosilicate 20–40; aluminum oxide 10–40; kaolin clay 10–30.
