PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain particles for a radiation image conversion panel having a high clarity, a high luminance, and a high particle fineness by carrying out the surface treatment of fired phosphor particles with a silane coupling agent in the presence of metal oxide particles having a specified mean particle diameter by a wet process under high-speed agitation. SOLUTION : Synthesized stimulable phosphor particles are fired, 0.01-10 wt.%, based on the phosphor particles, metal oxide particles, such as of Al2O3 or SiO2, having a mean particle diameter of 2-50 nm and 0.1-5 wt.% silane coupling agent such as &gamma -mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane are added to the fired particles, and the resulting mixture is wet-treated under high-speed agitation of at least 5/sec peripheral speed to obtain a rare-earth-activated alkaline earth metal fluorohalide stimulable phosphor represented by the formula : Ba1-XM2XFX : yM1.zLn and having a mean particle diameter of 1-10 &mu m.
