A strainer 101 is disclosed for use in fluid piping, which may be piping of a heating or cooling system or a fuel line. The strainer comprises a body 102 for connection to fluid piping inflow and outflow conduits 201, 202. The body comprises an interior chamber 103, fluid inlet and outlet ports 104, 105, and a fluid flow path 106 extending through the chamber between the ports. The strainer also comprises a screen collector 107 within the fluid flow path 106, and a permanent magnet collector 108 which may comprise a rare-earth magnet. Both collectors are removably locatable in the body. The strainer may be Y-shaped. The screen collector removes particles greater than a particular size from the fluid stream, while the magnet collector removes smaller magnetic particles, thus providing cleaner system flow. This prevents the formation of sludge and corrosion of pipes.
