PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an easy method for treating organic waste efficiently with an alkali. SOLUTION : This method for treating organic waste comprises the steps of adding the alkali and carbonate of an alkali metal or an alkaline-earth metal to the slurry obtained by crushing organic waste and agitating the resulting slurry at ≥50°C to solubilize organic solid content in the resulting slurry.
