The disclosed fluorophosphate glass for active devices comprises : a metaphosphate composition comprising about 20-30 mol% of Al(PO_3)_3; a fluoride composition comprising about 10-60 mol% of BaF_2 and about 10-70 mol% of SrF_2; and a dopant comprising a rare earth element.
