PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a substance that is an excellent carrier for a vehicle exhaust gas purification catalyst and imparts high catalytic activity in the low-temperature region. SOLUTION : A perovskite complex oxide is provided whose ratio of thermogravimetric weight decrease between 50°C and 180°C to thermogravimetric weight decrease between 50°C and 1000°C is not less than 30 % and which contains, for example, one or more rare earth elements and one or more transition metal elements. Among perovskite complex oxides represented by structural formula RTO3, ones in which R is constituted by one or more rare earth elements and T is constituted by one or more transition metal elements, and ones in which R is constituted by one or more rare earth elements and one or more members selected from the group comprising alkali metal elements and alkaline earth metal elements and T is constituted by one or more transition metal elements are excellent for use.
