PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a conductive material suitable for an electrode material of a solid electrolyte type fuel cell and having a high specific surface area; and to provide an electrode using it.
SOLUTION : This material for an electrode of a solid electrolyte type fuel cell has a BET specific surface area above 20 m2/g, preferably above 40 m2/g and is formed of a perovskite (RTO3) type composite oxide. In this case, R is formed of one or more of rare-earth elements and T is formed of one or more of transition metal elements. The material for an electrode can be manufactured by a technique for heating, to 450-800°C, an amorphous precursor substance formed by adjusting its composition so as to set a ratio of a total number of moles of the R elements to that of the T elements to nearly 1 : 1. When the electrode material is used, an electrode extremely rich in porosity can be provided and reaction efficiency is remarkably improved.
