PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain a catalyst having high decomposition activity to chlorinated organic compounds. SOLUTION : The catalyst for the decomposition of chlorinated organic compounds contains an oxide carrier containing oxide of at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of magnesium, aluminum, silicon, titanium, vanadium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, zirconium, niobium, molybdenum, indium, tin and tungsten and oxide of at least one rare earth element and fine gold particles supported on the oxide carrier.
