PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalytic oxidation catalyst for producing phthalic anhydride from o-xylene and/or naphthalene by a catalytic vapor-phase oxidation reaction (partial oxidation reaction), which is inexpensive and can exhibit catalytic activity stably with time without being deteriorated with time.
SOLUTION : A catalytically active component comprising vanadium pentoxide, anatase titanium oxide, and an oxide of at least one element selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal, a rare earth element, sulfur, phosphorus, antimony, niobium, and boron is allowed to be carried by a carrier comprising silicon carbide, an inorganic binder component, and at least one oxide selected from the group consisting of niobium oxide, antimony oxide, and tungsten oxide.
