A method for manufacturing a honeycomb structure wherein a silicon carbide powder, metallic silicon, an organic binder and an alkaline earth metal are mixed and kneaded, to prepare a body, the body is formed into an article having a predetermined shape, the article is calcined, to remove the organic binder, and then the calcined article is fired, which comprises carrying out the firing in a protective container being made of silicon carbide and being provided with a solid containing aluminum placed therein. © KIPO & WIPO 2007
