PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain a two-terminal nonlinear element which can maintain high quality and reliability by forming an insulating material on the surface of a first conductor and forming a metal of aluminum with addition of rare earth elements as a second conductor on the surface of the insulator. SOLUTION : The first conductor film 22 is a conductive metal thin film. The oxide film 24 is an insulating film formed by anodizing the surface of the first conductor film 22 in a chemical conversion liquid. The second conductor film 26 is a conductive metal thin film and consists of a metal prepared by adding a small amt. of rare earth elements especially lanthanoids such as neodymium, samarium and cerium to aluminum. The pixel electrode 36 is formed in one body with the second conductive film 26. By using the metal of aluminum with addition of rare earth elements as the second conductor film 26, corrosion resistance and heat resistance can be improved as compared with pure aluminum.
