PURPOSE : A barium-based copper mother alloy is provided that improves recovery ratio, corrosion resistance, toughness and deoxidizing and desulfurizing efficiencies, prevents generation of cracks during hot working, reduces generation of dust and gas, and further inhibits production of harmful nonmetallic inclusions by adding rare earth metals and barium to stainless steel during manufacturing of stainless steel. CONSTITUTION : A barium-based copper mother alloy for manufacturing stainless steel comprises 3.0 to 25 wt.% of barium(Ba), and copper(Cu) and the balance being inevitable impurities, wherein the barium-based copper mother alloy is an environmentally friendly rare earth metal and barium mother alloy that has higher recovery ratio compared with conventional MM and Ca-Si and improved desulfurizing property and hot formability, prevents generation of casting cracks and reduces generation of dust and gas. © KIPO 2006
