PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To control magnetostriction in an alloy while its high saturation magnetic flux density and high permeability are maintained by allowing it to have a compsn. composed of one or more kinds among Fe, Ni and Co, one or more kinds among Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Mo and W and one or more kinds among rare earth elements including Y. SOLUTION : This alloy has a compsn. represented by (Fe1-aZa)bBxMyRez, where Z denotes one or more kinds of Ni and Co, M denotes one or more kinds among Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Mo and W, and Re denotes one or more kinds among rare earth elements including Y. (a), (b), (x), (y) and (z) showing the compositional ratios satisfy, by atomic %, 0<=a<=0.2, 75<=b<=93, 0.5<=z<=18, 3<=y<=9 and 0<=z<=5. The alloy has a structure consisting of essential fine crystalline phases composed of the crystal grains of Fe with a body-centered cubic structure of <=30 nm average crystal grain size and amorphous phases, and by controlling the kind and the adding amt. of Re, magnetostriction can be controlled.
