PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for melting an extra-low oxygen iron and iron alloy without needing a special apparatus such as high vacuum facility, and without producing deoxidized formation. SOLUTION : Solid metallic hydride mixing one or more kinds of titanium hydride, zirconium hydride, magnesium hydride, vanadium hydride, lithium hydride, sodium hydride, potassium hydride, calcium hydride, rare earth metal hydrides and hydrogen-occulusion alloy subjected to the hydride, are added and deoxidized in a molton metal of iron or iron alloy.
