PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a ceramic metal halide lamp which has free lighting direction by effectively restraining the change of the color of emitted light in lighting direction. SOLUTION : The metal halide lamp comprises a ceramic envelope composed of a main tube forming a discharging space and thin tube parts extending from both ends of the main tube, a pair of power supply body extending in a hollow part of the thin tube part, sealing member tightly sealing end part of openings of the thin tube part, and light emitting substance sealed in the discharge space. Each of the pair of power supply body is composed of an electrode of which, top end part is arranged in the discharging space and a electrode supporting body extending from a terminal part of the electrode. The tube shape parameter expressed by the ratio of the inner diameter of the main tube part ϕi to the distance Le between the top end part of the electrodes is 0.45 to 0.65. The light emitting substance is composed of a basic component and an auxiliary component. The basic component is composed of halide of rare earth metal and sodium, and the auxiliary component is composed of a metal halide composed of halide of mercury. COPYRIGHT : (C)2006, JPO&NCIPI
