PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a new multiple oxide having improved durability to long-term use; and to provide a promoter used for a catalyst for cleaning an exhaust gas, which is obtained by using the same.
SOLUTION : A cerium-zirconium-bismuth-silver four-component system multiple oxide is obtained by adding silver as a fourth component to a cerium-zirconium-bismuth multiple oxide. Thereby, the multiple oxide capable of maintaining high oxidation-reduction function in a low temperature range of 300-400°C even after it is subjected to repeated oxidation/reduction at 800-1, 000°C can be quite easily obtained. Such multiple oxide can be suitably used as a promotor excellent in heat resistance for a catalyst for cleaning an exhaust gas, for example, even in an application wherein it is exposed to severe environment with rapid temperature change.
