PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide rare earth element-iron based magnet powder having excellent orientation properties by a magnetic field since angulation is not present on the surface and it is covered with a film of a phosphate, and also having excellent weatherability, and to provide a production method therefor. SOLUTION : In the production method, while removing angulation on the surface of the magnet alloy powder by grinding organic solvent slurry containing (A) rare earth element-iron based alloy powder subjected to wet pulverization, in the presence of (B) phosphoric acid, a phosphate film is formed on the surface.
