PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a compacting method in a magnetic field by which orientation of a rare-earth sintered magnet can be improved. SOLUTION : The compacting method in a magnetic field comprises steps of filling a die with a magnetic powder, orientating the magnetic powder filled in the die by applying a pulsed magnetic field under damped oscillation, and compacting the magnetic powder. By applying the pulsed magnetic field under damped oscillation, orientating properties can be improved. It is preferable that the polarities of the pulsed magnetic field are changed, and it is also preferable that a magnetic field of ≥1 T (absolute value) is applied for 10 μs to 0.5 s. A rare-earth sintered magnet having improved orientation can be thereby obtained.
