Compounds of formula (I) are new. Compounds of formula R-Y-(-X-Phe-COCH 2COC nF 2n+1) m(I) are new. R : alkyl, phenyl or a group capable of binding to a protein, peptide, amino acid, nucleic acid or base; Phe : phenylene; X : O, S, NH, CH 2, OCH 2, CONH or NHCO; Y : CH 2, carbocyclyl, heterocyclyl; m : 1-3; and n : 1-5. Independent claims are also included for : (1) luminous complexes comprising the compounds and rare-earth metal ions; (2) labeling reagents comprising the compounds or luminous complexes; and (3) a method for labeling a protein, peptide, amino acid, nucleic acid or base by using the labeling reagents.
