PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for efficiently replacing the catalysts in the reactor of an industrial scale, when acrylonitrile is produced through the ammoxidation reaction by using propylene, ammonia and molecular oxygen in the presence of different types of catalysts.SOLUTION : The catalyst to be replaced and the replacing catalyst are each an oxide type catalyst supported on silica and are shown by the following empirical formula (1) or the empirical formula (2) and the replacement is carried out so that the activity of the replacing catalyst that is measured under the specific conditions is in a range from 1/3 to 3 of the activity of the catalyst to be replaced and the replacement ratio of the replacing catalyst to the catalyst to be replaced is set in the range of 0.1 to 1.0 kg/T-AN wherein the empirical formula (1) Mo12BiaFebCcDdEeFfGgOx; the empirical formula (2) : Sb10HhJjKkOy (C : Ni, Co, Mg, Zn or the like : rare earth elements E : Cr, Ga, In, P or the like, F : Pd, Rh, Ru or the like; G : alkali metal, H : Fe, Co, Ni or the like; K : Mg, Ca, Sr or the like; O : oxygen).
