PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To maintain coercive force of an RIG (rare-earth iron garnet) film at a high level, and further to suppress variation of the coercive force to a minimum, even if the high coercive RIG film is cut off to the size of a factory-finished item, in the manufacture of a Faraday rotator. SOLUTION : In the method for manufacturing the Faraday rotator, including steps to vapor deposit the rare-earth iron garnet film, to mirror finish the rare-earth iron garnet film and to dice it, the rare-earth iron garnet film is etched, after mirror-finishing or after dicing.
