PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an electrode member composing a cathode of a water electrolysis unit or an anode of a fuel cell, which has reduced hydrogen generation overvoltage with the use of a hydrogen-absorbing alloy.
SOLUTION : The electrode member is made of a particle 1 of a rare earth-Ni-based hydrogen-absorbing alloy which absorbs and releases hydrogen; preferably includes a metallic phase 2 which is active to a hydrogen electrode reaction and is arranged on the surface of the particle 1 of the rare earth-Ni-based hydrogen-absorbing alloy; and preferably exposes an interface between the particle 1 of the rare earth-Ni-based hydrogen-absorbing alloy and the metallic phase 2. The electrode member composes the cathode of the water electrolysis unit or the anode of the fuel cell.
