PURPOSE : Provided are a method for preparing a positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery, a positive electrode active material prepared by the method, and a lithium secondary battery using the positive electrode active material, to improve electrochemical properties and to inhibit swelling at a high temperature.
CONSTITUTION : The method comprises the steps of uniformly mixing a hydroxide compound containing nickel and cobalt; nickel, cobalt and metal (at least one element selected from the group consisting of Al, Cr, Fe, Mg, Sr, V and a rare earth element); nickel, cobalt and manganese; or nickel, cobalt, manganese and metal (at least one element selected from the group consisting of Al, Cr, Fe, Mg, Sr, V and a rare earth element) with a lithium-containing compound; firstly heating the obtained mixture at 600-1, 100 deg.C for 2-30 hours; and secondly heating the mixture at 700-900 deg.C for 5-30 hours. The prepared positive electrode active material contains 0.3 wt% or less of carbon present on surface.
