PURPOSE : A magnetic powder and a method for producing the same are provided to prevent a degradation of tape surface evenness and durability by maintaining superior magnetic characteristics. CONSTITUTION : A magnetic powder comprises particles having Fe as a main component, with a surface layer containing an oxide of at least one of Al, Si, and Ra(wherein, Ra includes Y and is one or more rare earth elements). The magnetic powder has an average particle diameter smaller than 70nm, the number of basic sites on the surface of 0.85 sites/nm^2 or less, and the number of acid sites on the surface of 0.75 sites/nm^2 or less. © KIPO 2005
