PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for economically and efficiently producing a fluorophor in the form of fine powder with slight contamination of impurities and uniform particle size. SOLUTION : The method for producing the fluorophor comprises incorporating urea and/or a derivative thereof with at least one metal compound, wherein the metal is selected from the group consisting of Al, B, Ba, Be, Bi, Ca, Cd, Cs, Ga, Ge, Hf, In, K, Li, Mg, Mo, Na, Nb, P, Rb, Si, Sn, Sr, Ta, Ti, V, W, Zr and rare earth metals, to prepare a mixed melt, which is put to temperature rise and then solidified to produce a precursor, which is ground and then fired. The main phase of this fluorophor consists of e.g. a sulfide, oxysulfide, tantalate or silicate.
