PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an ornamental material which is obtained in a form that can be worked into accessories or the like, and is capable of performing light emission or color development in different colors under different types of rays, such as the visible ray, the ultraviolet ray, and the infrared ray. SOLUTION : As the ornamental material, a single crystal having a composition represented by chemical formula : RVO4, wherein, R is at least one rare earth element selected from Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, or Lu is used.
