PURPOSE : To allow a cell body to accumulate rare earth elements, especially yttrium, lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium and neodymium in it by culturing a microorganism capable of accumulating rare earth elements and belonging to the genus Variovorax. CONSTITUTION : A microorganism belonging to the genus Variovorax e.g. Variovorax paradoxus R-1 (FERM P-14492), which is capable of accumulating rare earth elements, is cultured under aerobic conditions. A culture temperature and a medium pH are preferably 20-70 deg.C and 5-9, respectively.
