PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a novel chemical heat storage different from conventional CaO or the like.
SOLUTION : There is provided a chemical heat storage material which generates or absorbs heat by occluding or releasing a heat medium consisting of water. Especially it consists of a specific element consisting of one or more kind selected from rare earth elements consisting of La, Y, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd and Dy, oxygen (O) and water (H), becomes oxyhydroxide (MOOH) before occlusion of the heat medium and becomes tri-valent hydroxide (M(OH)3) after occlusion of the heat medium. A regeneration temperature when the chemical heat storage material releases the heat medium is 230°C or higher. For example, 50 mol% or more of MOOH becomes M(OH)3 within 1 hr. by contacting the chemical heat storage material with steam of 10 kPa at 100°C. La, which is available at relatively low price, is preferable as M.
