PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of separating rare earth elements, which can largely down-size the necessary apparatus and largely reduce the chemicals to be used in a step of separating the rare earth elements by solvent extraction by increasing the concentration of the rare earth elements contained in an original liquid. SOLUTION : A method of separating rare earth elements for separating one or more kinds of the rare earth elements using a solvent extraction method from a raw material liquid containing a plurality of kinds of rare earth elements in an aqueous solution includes a step of forming an original liquid by extracting the plurality of kinds of rare earth elements with an organic solvent by contacting the organic solvent with the raw material liquid, and then, a step of separating the rare earth elements using the solvent extraction method on the original liquid.
