PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing an R-T-B magnet having high HcJ in such a way that a heavy rare earth element is used as little as possible.
SOLUTION : A method for manufacturing an R-T-B magnet comprises the steps of : preparing an R1-T1-X based alloy bulk (where R1 is mainly Nd; T1 is mainly Fe; and X is mainly B) chiefly characterized in that the [T1]/[X] molar ratio is 13.6 or more; preparing an R2-Ga-Cu based alloy (where R2 is mainly Pr and/or Nd, which accounts for 65-95 mol%; and [Cu]/([Ga]+[Cu]) is 0.1-0.9 by molar ratio); and performing a thermal treatment at a temperature of 450-600°C with at least part of the surface of the R1-T1-X based alloy bulk put in contact with at least part of the R2-Ga-Cu based alloy.
