The present invention relates to a method for producing a rare earth permanent magnet, in particular a high-energy rare earth permanent magnet, the method comprising the following steps : generating (S1) a permanent magnet main body containing light rare earth; electrochemically depositing (S2) a heavy rare earth material, in particular Terbium Tb, on said permanent magnet main body; and applying a grain boundary diffusion process (S3) to the permanent magnet main body coated with the heavy rare earth material. The invention further relates to a rare earth permanent magnet produced in this way.
