PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a synthetic fiber that is used in the manufacture of a special nonwoven fabric, paper and other fiber products for imparting a forgery prevention effect, exhibits a reversible hue change by visual observation and has physical properties suitable for manufacture of nonwoven fabric and papermaking. SOLUTION : The synthetic fiber includes a lanthanoid rare earth compound and a thermoplastic resin containing polyolefin or polyamide. The content of the lanthanoid rare earth compound is in the range of 7.0 to 45.0 wt% based on the weight of the thermoplastic resin and the primary particle size of the lanthanoid rare earth compound is 0.6 to 9.0 μm.
