Provided is a method for manufacturing a surface-treated phosphor in which the surface of an alkali rare-earth silicate phosphor that contains a silicate of an alkali rare-earth metal is covered with a surface-treatment layer. The method for manufacturing a surface-treated phosphor comprises a surface treatment in which a surface-treatment layer is formed on the surface of the alkali rare-earth silicate phosphor by bringing the alkali rare-earth silicate phosphor and a molten or pyrolized surface-treatment substance into contact with one another. The surface-treatment substance is at least one selected from the group consisting of a sulfate, a phosphate, a carbonate, a borate, boric acid, a titanate, and a fluoride.
