According to a flat nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of one embodiment of the present invention, a good charge/discharge cycle can be achieved even if the charging voltage of the positive electrode is increased. A flat nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of one embodiment of the present invention is provided with : a positive electrode plate (16) that is provided with a positive electrode mixture layer containing a positive electrode active material that is capable of reversibly absorbing and desorbing lithium; a negative electrode plate (17); an electrode body (13) having a structure that is obtained by laminating the positive electrode plate (16) and the negative electrode plate (17) with a separator (18) being interposed therebetween; and a nonaqueous electrolyte solution. A compound of at least one metal that is selected from among Al, Mg, Ti, Zr, W and rare earth elements is adhered to the surface of the positive electrode active material; and a pressure is applied to the flat nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery from the outside in the lamination direction of the positive electrode plate (16), the negative electrode plate (17) and the separator (18).
