With respect to a spark plug (1) wherein a center electrode (5) and/or a ground electrode (27) is provided with chips (31, 32), an electrode material that constitutes the electrode, which is provided with the chips (31, 32), is mainly composed of Ni, and has an Si content of 0.50% by mass or more but less than 1.0% by mass, an Al content of from 0.2% by mass to 2.0% by mass (inclusive), a Cr content of from 12% by mass to 34% by mass (inclusive), a content of at least one element that is selected from the group consisting of Y and rare earth elements of from 0.03% by mass to 0.2% by mass (inclusive), an Fe content of more than 0% by mass but 20% by mass or less, a C content of 0.10% by mass or less and an Mn content of 1.0% by mass or less, with the total of the Si content and the Al content being 0.80% by mass or more but not more than 1/10 of the Cr content.
