PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a thermal spray material from which a thermal spray film excellent in corrosion resistance to an acid such as hydrochloric acid is manufactured.
SOLUTION : A thermal spray material comprises granules containing an oxyfluoride (LnOF) of a rare earth element and a fluoride (LnF3) of a rare earth element. The thermal spray material of 50 g is put in 500 mL of hydrochloric acid of 3 mol/L at 40±5°C, kept at 40±5°C for 2 hours under stirring and then subjected to solid-liquid separation to obtain a liquid. The C/S value (unit : mol g/(m2 L) of the liquid is 0.04 or less, where C (unit : mol/L) indicates a concentration of the rare earth element in the liquid; and S (unit : m2/g) indicates a BET method specific surface area of the thermal spray material. The angle of repose of the thermal spray material is preferably 40° or less. The differential angle of the thermal spray material is preferably 10° or less.
