PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method capable of manufacturing rare earth alloy powder excellent in magnetic properties by improving an HDDR method.
SOLUTION : The method for manufacturing rare earth alloy powder by a hydrogenation decomposition and dehydrogenation recombination method comprises the steps of : (a) hydrocracking a raw material alloy containing a rare earth element to obtain the decomposition product; (b) discharging hydrogen from the decomposition product to reduce hydrogen concentration of the decomposition product; and (c) further discharging hydrogen from the decomposition product at a hydrogen discharge speed lower than that in the step (b) to obtain the rare earth alloy powder. The method is transferred from the step (b) to the step (c) when in the cross section of the decomposition product, an area ratio of a R2Fe14B phase (R represents a rare earth element) covering a rare earth hydride phase becomes 25 to 55% on the basis of the total area of the cross section.
