PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a fluorescent lamp having an extremely long lighting life, by reviewing the structure of conventional tungsten coil filament and emitter, thereby suppressing the consumption rate of the emitter which is consumed as the lighting time elapses. SOLUTION : In a fluorescent lamp provided with a phosphor layer on the inner surface of a glass bulb, and filled with mercury or a mercury compound and a rare gas, and including an electrode where a tungsten coil filament holding an emitter, i.e., an electron emitting material, is supported at both ends of the glass bulb, the tungsten coil filament holding the emitter has an electrode structure satisfying a relation 0.85≤Se/(Se+St)≤1, where St(mm2) is the area of tungsten exposed to the surface at a part holding the emitter, and Se(mm2) is the area of the emitter exposed to the surface.
