PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of removing protective layer capable of easily removing a protective layer even when the protective layer is made of ceramic or the like having no electric conductivity. SOLUTION : The method of removing protective layer for removing a protective layer 6 that protects a consumable member from the consumable member 2 including aluminum, the protective layer being formed with melt-sprayed film having a porous structure, has a process of dissolving a soluble layer 4 formed with an oxide of rare earth elements (excluding Sc, La, Ce, Pm and Tb) interposing between the protective layer and the consumable member with an acidic aqueous solution which is adjusted to such a concentration as not to corrode the consumable member and, thereby, removing the protective layer 6.
