PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing an Al-diffused metal material which is excellent in oxidation resistance more than those of existing Al-diffused metal materials. SOLUTION : A method for manufacturing a metal material with a diffusion layer includes : a step where a metal material capable of forming an Al compound is subjected to electrolytic plating in an organic solvent containing Al and at least an element α selected from a group consisting of Zr, Hf, Si and rare-earth elements to obtain a coated metal material that has a coating containing Al and the element α on the surface thereof; and a step of heating the coated metal material under a treatment condition where the Al and the element α contained in the coating are dispersed at least a surface region of the metal material, to obtain a metal material with a diffusion layer in which the Al and the element α are dispersed.
