PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a ceramic metal halide lamp that is improved in color rendering property, especially, a special color rendering evaluation number R9 without causing a substantial decrease in lamp efficiency.SOLUTION : There is provided a ceramic metal halide lamp having a light emission tube enclosed in an outer bulb, and the light emission tube has a light emission portion, in which metal halide, mercury, and inert gas are encapsulated, and capillaries, into which a pair of electrode assemblies arranged at both ends thereof are inserted, made of translucent ceramic. In the light emission portion, at least thulium iodide (TmI), thallium iodide (TlI), sodium iodide (NaI), and calcium iodide (CaI) are encapsulated, and silver iodine (AgI) is further encapsulated, where the amount of the silver iodide is so defined that 2≤(AgI/CaI)[mole ratio]≤5, and 0<(AgI/TlI)[mole ratio]≤10.
