PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a phosphor which has a strong excitation band in the range of ultraviolet rays or in the range of short wave-length visible rays and is capable of light-emitting visible rays with a good efficiency.
SOLUTION : The phosphor is expressed by general formula : M1O2-aM2O-bM3X2 : M4, wherein M1 is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Si, Ge, Ti, Zr and Sn; M2 is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Zn; M3 is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Zn; X is at least one kind of a halogen element; M4 is at least one element comprising Eu2+ as an essential element and being selected from the group consisting of rare earth elements and Mn; a is in the range of 0.1≤a≤1.3, and b is in the range of 0.1≤b≤0.25.
