PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a permanent magnet in which the carbon content of magnet particles can be reduced before sintering even when wet grinding is employed, and to provide a method of producing the same.
SOLUTION : Roughly pulverized magnet powder is ground, in a solvent, by a bead mill together with an organic metal compound represented by M-(OR)x (In the formula, M includes at least one kind of rare earth elements Nd, Pr, Dy, Tb. R is a substituent group consisting of hydrocarbon, and may be a straight chain or a branch. x is an arbitrary integer.), and the organic metal compound is made to adhere to the surface of the magnet particles uniformly. Thereafter, a green compact obtained by compacting is held in a hydrogen atmosphere for several hours at 200-900°C and subjected to calcination in hydrogen. Subsequently, it is fired to produce a permanent magnet 1.
