PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for a recovering rare earth alloy from a rare earth permanent magnet whose plated film is surface-treated in which the rare earth alloy is recovered at a high recovery rate in an easily reusable form for a magnet.
SOLUTION : The rare earth permanent magnet 1 whose plated film 2 is surface-treated is largely cracked. Then when the rare earth permanent magnet is heat treated in hydrogen, the treatment is performed with a treatment temperature extending over before and after 200-300°C for treatment time of one hour or longer. The rare earth alloy can be recovered with an average particle diameter of the recovered alloy powder being easily recovered and as an appropriate value having less oxidation by recovering the rare earth alloy by sieving.
